Well, we are very pleased to say Day 1 of the Flat Classroom Workshop was a great success. Lots of intense work getting used to new technology tools (Ning, wiki, backchannel, creative commons etc) but also lots of team building and getting to know new people.
We invite everyone to review the
Day 1 wiki. All teams have started their brainstorming and issue identification. Each team should have posted information on their wiki page and also a question in the discussion tab. Virtual and real participants are invited to add comments and constructive encouragement as response to these before we start again on Friday at 8am HK time (GMT +8).
In addition, Kim Cofino and I wish to share the presentation we gave this evening about flat classrooms and the workshop. The
keynote presentation slides are on the wiki as well as the video about the
Flat Classroom Conference in Qatar that we were not able to play due to technical errors. This video is really worth watching as it portrays the experience and excitement of the project-based learning similar to what we are now emulating here in Hong Kong.
Looking forward to Day 2!
Come and join us during Parallel session 2: Teams will present their proposed Digital Divide solution to groups of main conference strand participants. Each group will provide feedback to the students using the judging rubric. Each team will receive 3 rubric-based reviews.
Submitted for program:
This is an opportunity to interact with the Flat Classroom Workshop strand. Educators are invited to review teams after listening to their ideas. This a 21st Century 'flat' learning experience where adults and students are learning together.
Participants in the Flat Classroom Workshop will join with a group of main conference educators. In this session workshop teams of 3-4 will 'pitch' their ideas for solutions to the main theme of the 'digital divide'. Educators will provide feedback with rubric-based criteria and help teams work towards the next stage of project development. The pitch in this session will be largely verbal with possibly some images to support the argument presented.
The Flat Classroom Workshop will have 10 teams and therefore need a minimum of 20 educators to attend this session (10 groups of 2) in order to provide review.
Come and join us during Parallel session 3: Educators in the main conference strand are invited to hear and review Flat Classroom Workshop presentations. Teams will showcase their final ideas and pitches via a multimedia presentation. Presentations will pitch the teams' solution to an identified 'digital divide' problem. Solutions will have been developed by teams made up of workshop participants as well as global team members and expert advisors.
A highlight of this session is the opportunity for the audience (local and global) to vote on the best three presentations. These featured teams will then move into Strand 1 on Saturday where they prepare a 'F.L.A.T.' (Flat Learning Action Talk) to be presented in the Flat Classroom Closing Session.
