A conference for Leaders and Classroom Practitioners in Asia's World City!

Dianne Mckenzie

Wiki's for professional collaboration and development.

Wiki's are a powerful web 2.0 tool which need not be restricted to classroom use. This session will explore how wiki's have been set up in libraries for professional development and staff collaboration and even as a working document for policies and procedures as they develop. Even though this session is based on school library use, the concepts can be used across any subject platform or administrative area.

In our Library we use wiki technology for creating our policy and procedures documents.
We love the currency of wikis over a word document. As a policies and procedure document it is always constantly being updated and extended with new information. The ease of accessibility to the wiki means it happens and the fact that several people are contributing lightens the work load. Love it!!

I would like to support Dianne’s view that wikis are very convenient tools for professional development and staff collaboration. Expanding wikis from classroom to school staffroom can significantly enhance the information flow among school staff engaged in teaching.

Wiki is a good method of communication and it is efficient in sharing ideas, however ANYONE can edit it so the information obtained cannot be trusted fully. Wiki still has a long way to go.

This is where password protection is important, but also using the history function on a good wiki application is useful.
Anyone editing is one of the key functions that make it all so useful.
